I'm 50, live in Austin, Texas but am a Northern California native and my heart still belongs there. I spend a lot of my time quilting, cooking, reading and working on my house. I've been keeping track for about ten years of all the books that I read. I had been writing comments but life got in the way and I need to start doing that again.

The Imperial Cruise by James Bradley

This book by James Bradley was about a cruise that Teddy Roosevelt sent his daughter and the Secretary of War, William Taft, on in 1905. The purpose of the cruise was to see the far east, in particular, China, Japan, the Philippine's and Korea. Teddy Roosevelt had been working for years to bring Imperialism, or following the sun, to that region to Americanize the area. The belief that white/Aryan ways were the best way for the world to live. This belief along with some of the meetings that William Taft had divided up the area and can be directly related to different wars in the area including the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It was an interesting book, I realized what a racist that Roosevelt was and the cause and effect of our relations over a 50 year period of time, before and after this cruise, affected world history.
