The Big Burn by Timothy Egan
This was a great non fiction book about how the forest service started back in the early 1900's and was fought against by many people. Until the largest forest fire in Idaho and Montana that has historically been referred to as the Big Burn. Great book about the experiences of the group of men who started the forest service and it was pushed through by Teddy Roosevelt (I have little love for him but this was a good thing). The book then moves through the experiences of the first forest rangers and what happened with the Big Burn and then into the aftermath with the acquisition of National Parks. Good book.
