I'm 50, live in Austin, Texas but am a Northern California native and my heart still belongs there. I spend a lot of my time quilting, cooking, reading and working on my house. I've been keeping track for about ten years of all the books that I read. I had been writing comments but life got in the way and I need to start doing that again.

A Good Indian Wife by Anne Cherian

I keeping finding myself reading books written by Indian women. They are so interesting and the cultural information I just absorb like crazy. This book by Anne Cherian is about a woman who is considered an old maid in her town in India because she is 30 and never chosen for marriage even though she has been pranced in front of a lot of men. She is smart, well read, English teacher at a university. Still lives at home of course and her mother is overbearing. An arranged marriage takes place with a doctor who is called home to India because his grandfather is dying. This turns out to be a hoax after the arrangements are made. He has a girlfriend in California and returns with his Indian wife. I won't say anymore but it is a great book!
