I'm 50, live in Austin, Texas but am a Northern California native and my heart still belongs there. I spend a lot of my time quilting, cooking, reading and working on my house. I've been keeping track for about ten years of all the books that I read. I had been writing comments but life got in the way and I need to start doing that again.

The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford

This is a first novel by Jamie Ford who writes about what is familiar in his family history. Looking at his name you wouldn't know that he is of Japanese descent. This is a love story that goes between 1986 and the early 1940's after Pearl Harbor. A young Chinese boy who meets a Japanese girl whose father forbids him to become friends with at the time. It follows there story from meeting in school until she and her family are sent to an internment camp and the are separated. He visits her twice but then loses contact. The story goes back and forth with the main character remembering their brief time as kids and after he has been widowed, his regrets in not finding her. Great book, I've read another book about an internment camp and it is interesting and sad.
