The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
Great memoir by a contributor to MSNBC. I always get my books at the library but went and bought a copy for Nicole, my "niece" (best friends daughter). Nicole is a therapist and will enjoy this book. It is a miracle that Jeannette Walls and her brother and two sisters made it out of their childhoods alive. If it wasn't the '70's at the time they would have been taken away from their parents for neglect. Not physically abused, just no guidance and living in extremely substandard conditions, without food, running water, etc. Yet, she loved her parents dearly. It sounds depressing but it wasn't. Really good book.
